The mission of the Capital Reading Council is to promote literacy and provide professional growth for members of the council on literacy related issues.

Capital Reading Council is a local council of the International Reading Association and the Keystone State Reading Association, serving Harrisburg, PA and the surrounding area.


Capital Reading Council has received the Exemplary Reading Council Award from the Keystone State Reading Association in the following program years:  2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011

Capital Reading Council has received the President's Leadership Award from the Keystone State Reading Association in the following program years:  2002-2003, 2005-2006, 2008-2009, 2010-2011

The Captial Reading Council was formed in 1966.  The council celebrated 30 years of contribution toward the promotion of reading instruction in the 1996-1997 program year and 40 years in the 2006-2007 program year.
